This time last year, I was in a deep wintering and the large tree in my backyard was raining yellow leaves. It was so early for autumn leaves and yet, that tree was mirroring my own journey of letting go, of releasing a chapter of my life to the winds of change. This year, that tree is solid with vibrant green leaves. I feel in myself a spring of potential, growth, and vibrancy. The time of September for many heralds the return to school days, the shortening of days, the coolness of mornings and evenings, and a melancholy filled longing for the freedom and radiance only the season of summer can offer. So here we are, full on into autumn and as we let the wild hijinx, plot twists, and racing pace of this August slip on by like the last wave of the beach vacation, we walk into a pivotal time of 2024.
Journal Prompt for September: What is your mouthpiece? A microphone, a social media platform, a pulpit, a stage, a seat at the table? This month is all about communication. How are you communicating? What do you have to say? How are you saying it? Kindness, respect, intelligence, vitriol, rage, injustice, inspiration, guidance? If you have something say – say it.
The Dragon has the feet of the Rooster and the scales of the Snake. Therefore this month of the Yin Water Rooster is in harmony with the annual Zodiac Animal. This is a very colorful, animated, loud, and flamboyant month ahead. This is your time to grab the microphone at karaoke, to hit the campaign trail, to speak your truth, to speak what’s on your heart. This is a go big or go home time ad we are all in some way, in the spotlight. How are you showing up? Check your colors! But also, communication is two sided, so as much as you want to dominate the narrative, there is something for you to listen to as well. Be open to the truth and story of others, not quick to correct or criticize or argue but truly listen with an open mind. Still, September is a loud month, many voices are crowing to wake us up. Can you discern truth from fallacy, propaganda from a real battle cry? And, just as we must learn to use our voice, we must learn to listen, and as we must learn to discern the voice that makes our heart sing, we must also find silence. Balance is going to save us from burnout. Reduce the noise in your own soundtrack.

DEPRESS – The 3 Star in the Center is visited by the 7 Star in September. The 3 Wood Star is weakened by this placement in the Earthy Center and this month the battle is on with the Metal 7 Star. This is gossip, back stabbing, slander, being canceled, arguments that turn violent, and injury with sharp objects even surgery. Best Colors/ Decor: Change it up! Remove the RED we have used for 2024’s Center cure and replace with something BLUE. Blue will drain the 7 Star and attempt to control this contentious chi. Blue fabric, pillows, but not flowing active water. Avoid: Metal, white, gray, black, Water, colors of Green and Fiery Red, Fuchsia, Orange, Violet. CURES: Annual cure of a Happy Hotei sitting on 7 Chinese Red envelopes. That cure protects your relationships and wealth. Add a smoky quartz to absorb negative chi.
DEPRESS – The 8 Star is in the North for 2024 and in SEPTEMBER the 3 Wood Star arrives to crash the party, tear open your gifts, and pop your balloons. The 8 Star is challenged in the Watery North this year and as we have ignored the innate expression of this direction to nourish the 8 Star with Earth but this 3 Star brings obstacles, conflict, and even potential health issues. Best Colors/ Decor: Live fresh plants with Fire colors of Red, Fuchsia, Violet, and Rose will drain the 3 Star while boosting the benevolence of the 8 Star Avoid: Colors of Metal, white, gray, black, Earth tones like yellow, peach, rust, burgundy, brown, and tan, Green, Water and colors of Blue. CURES: Place 8 Silk RED Flowers in a RED Vase. If this is a front entrance, hang 8 Chinese coins on red string from the door knob. No personal photos in this area for September.
ACTIVATE– The 6 Star is in the North East for 2024 and in Period 9, the 6 Star continues to be a Star of wealth and success. The Watery 1 Star ushers in great wealth and success in September. Best Colors/ Decor: Metal furnishings, Black, white, gray with BLUE to support the 1 Star. Bring this into your décor with rugs, pillows, and art. Images of Mountains, religious figures, and people who inspire you. Avoid: Earthy brown, yellow, cream, and tan, Water, Wood, all colors of Green, Fire, Red, Fuchsia, Violet, Tangerine, Rose, Red. CURES: Place 6 Gold ingots in a round yellow or gold/metal plate in a prominent place. If this is an entrance, hang a string of 6 Chinese coins on Black string from the door knob. Black crystals like obsidian can be used.
DEPRESS – The 1 Star is in the East and is our new Future Wealth Star in Period 9. This is where we imagine all that we want to manifest in 2024. The month of September is a real slam on the brakes moment in the East as the 5 Star is disaster and destruction arrives. The 5 Star is weakened greatly by the placement of the Woodsy East but warns of potential legal battles, illness, sickness, accidents, and other misfortune. Take heed! Best Colors: Wood and colors of blue, black, white, and gray. Avoid: Earth tones like yellow, brown, tan, peach, pale pink, and also Fire like red, violet, hot pink, orange, Woody green too. CURE: REMOVE ALL Personal Photos and your Vision Board because you want nothing personal to you in this sector of your home or office. If this is a bedroom use a salt water cure and Wu Lou health gourd for protection.
ACTIVATE– The 2 Star is in the South East where the Dragon holds reign for 2024. The 2 Star in Period 9 is going through a transformation as it is no longer the Sickness Star but is becoming a positive chi. DO NOT feed this with Fire, nor put it to work with Metal, but rather focus on nourishing it with its own Earthy element. Sitting in the Woodsy SE offers no solutions, just like the beleaguered 8 Star in the North. Be super mindful to keep this area undisturbed. PLUS this is the home of the GRAND DUKE, one of the 3 Afflictions. 2024 requires we keep this part of our home and property QUIET, NO CONSTRUCTION, LOUD NOISES (video games, loud TV, drumming, etc.). September brings in good fortune with the Metal 6 Star. Even with both of these Stars not compatible with the Woodsy SE, combined they offer great success, good fortune, promotion, and business growth. Best Colors: Focus on Metal to nourish and mitigate these Stars. colors of White, gray, and black. Avoid : Earthy elements of Yellow, Brown, and Terracotta or Rust, green colors, purple, violet, rose, and watermelon, and other Fire colors CURE: To appease the Grand Duke display a Tai Sui plaque and a pair of Pi Yao beasties facing into 105-135 degrees on the compass. You can also display a Gold Dragon to honor our Dragon Year. If this is an office, put 3 Brass Immortals at your back. If this is a main entrance, place a pair of Gold Fu Dogs flanking the front steps/ entranceway. If this is a Kitchen, cover the burners with cookie sheets when not in use. If this is a bedroom, put a Salt Water Cure under the bed and put a Brass Wu Lou Health Gourd on your bedside table. VACATE THIS AS A BEDROOM AND AVOID AS AN ENTRANCE if at all possible. DO NOT FACE South East, Do NOT TRAVEL or point your head when sleeping in the direction of the SE. For September enjoy this area of your home, office, and garden but do so quietly and without renovation or loud noises.
DEPRESS– The 7 Star is in the South is one of the WORST directions for 2024. If this is a bedroom or main entrance try to use another room for sleeping and entering your home. There is a real risk to safety and finances as well as your reputation. The 2 Star brings in a whole other level of wrath to this beleaguered area of our Ba-Gua. The South is where we have one of the 3 Afflictions, the Three Killings as well in 2024. CHECK DOORS AND SECURITY – DO NOT store guns, knives, or any other weapons, or tools like a chainsaw in the South. The 2 Star brings cat fights with women, relationship issues across the board, potential for illness and injury. Best Colors: Focus on Blue in rugs, art, bed linens, etc. Avoid: Black, white, gray, Metal, Earth tones like Brown, Tan, and Cream, Fire as in Red, Violet, Hot Pink, and Orange, active Water, Green, and Wood. CURE: Fill a black dish with rice and set a Chinese Coin with a bloodstone crystal on top to protect finances. If this is a Kitchen, cover the burners with cookie sheets when not in use. Three Killings Cure is a Brass Dragon Headed Turtle (never have this facing you) with a plant growing in clean, clear water.
ACTIVATE– The 9 Star is in the South West is our NEW wealth Star ruled by Fire and September brings a surge of good fortune with the 4 Star which speaks of promotion, advancement in work or studies, intelligence, great good fortune. Best Colors: Use colors of Fire again like Cherry, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, Rose, Purple, violet, lavender, with Earth tones like cream, Tan, Yellow, and Brown. Worst Colors: Metal, Gray, Black, White, BLUE, Water, Wood, and Green colors. CURE: Display prominently 9 purple silk flowers in a purple or green vase. You can also find on the Feng Shui Mall website a special Baoyou Zusui Master Cure specific for the 9 Star in 2024. Display symbols of wealth.
DEPRESS – The 5 Star is in the West is one of the worst directions for 2024. The 9 Star is another aggravation with Fire battling the West’s Metal. CAUTION. KEEP THIS AREA QUIET WITH NO CONSTRUCTION OR LOUD BANGING NOISES. Also keep this room dark and used minimally. Even as the 9 Star is really auspicious, when combined with the 5 Star it speaks of explosions, sudden events, disaster, and health issues around the heart, circulation, and mental health too. Best Colors: Metal and the colors of White, Gray, and Black. Keep the design very Zen. Add pops of Blue. Avoid: EARTH tones like Yellow, Brown, Tan, Peach, Rust, Wood, colors of Green, Water, Fire and Fire colors of Red, Hot Pink, Orange and Violet. CURE: If this is a main entrance, place a pair of Gold Fu Dogs flanking the front steps/ entranceway. If this is Kitchen, cover the burners with cookie sheets when not in use. If this is a bedroom, put a Salt Water Cure under the bed and put a Brass Wu Lou Health Gourd on your bedside table. VACATE THIS AS A BEDROOM AND AVOID AS AN ENTRANCE if at all possible. Best cure is a 6 rod Metal windchime outside or a chiming clock inside.
ACTIVATE–The 4 Star is in the North West is another conflicted area as the 4 Star is no longer our creative, genius, lover Star. September brings a sweet song from the Earthy 8 Star and offers intelligence which can benefit studies, brings luck, good fortune, and sparks romance. Remember that this is the direction of the Dog, so the NW is the other of the 3 Afflictions, the Sui Po which is the enemy of the Dragon. If you are born in the Day or Year of the Dog or Dragon DO NOT have this as you bedroom, office, or main entrance. Do Not face SE but it is OK to face NW and put your back to the SE. KEEP THIS AREA QUIET AND UNDISTURBED WITH CONSTRUCTION OR LOUD NOISES. Best Colors: RED is the color for September and this can be a RED pillow, throw blanket, or candle. AVOID: Blue colors, no Water, GREEN. Metal , White, Gray, and Black, Earth and colors of Yellow, Brown, Tan, Peach, or Rust. CURE: If a front door hang a Ba-Gua mirror to deflect the negative chi and flank the entrance with a pair of Metal Fu Dogs. If a bedroom put a Salt Water Cure under the bed and a Wu Lou Health gourd by the bedside. To protect relationships, put a Chinese Coin with the 4 characters facing up with a Rose Quartz crystal on top. 4 stalks of Lucky Bamboo in a Blue vase is another cure option. No family photos.
BEST DIRECTIONS: South West, North West (Sui Po), South East (Grand Duke), and NE.
Areas of Caution: Center, North, South (Three Killings), West, and East.
On the World Stage the Month of September puts the focus on most of Mexico, Central Canada, and much of the USA (Central across to the East Coast).

Flying Stars is an advanced system of Feng Shui that has been used since the times of Ancient China.
