Part 2 The Story of the Snake

The 4 seasons each have a rhythm and a mood. The Tiger of Spring is when we are just getting things started, planting seeds and nurturing all the new projects, ideas, and relationships for the year beginning. The Snake representing Summer, a time when we are enjoying the fruits of our labor, and when life is vibrant and active. The Monkey ushers in Autumn, a time when we harvest and compost all that we grew and cultivated in our year. Then comes the Pig who marks Winter, a time of rest, of recovery, and dreaming of what the next Spring may sprout. It is not surprising when a season slides forwards or backwards, for instance, it is not uncommon for there to be a little Winter in the midst of Spring, or for there to be a little Summer in the season of Autumn. These are those times when we are reminded that life is a continuum of change, and adaptation, and cycles.

One of the challenges of a Snake year is that it can often feel like we are being pushed into a season we are not ready for and that can lead to all kinds of conflict. The Snake will battle with each of the Zodiac Animals that challenges his season of Summer and especially with the Pig. So, the way 2025 begins is a complicated start to a transformative story.

Now it is time to tell the Part 2

The Snake left behind the bold Dragon that gave the Snake permission to dream big, to take bold action. The Snake slithers out into the big Yang Fire of the Sun in the month of May and finds another Snake. At first the Snake is feeling challenged, this is competition, this feels confrontational. The Snake Snake tangle hisses loudly our year 2025 like a great echo reverberating over our lives. Snake is feeling hot in this baking sun, summer is rising in the sky mercilessly, he intuits that great transformation is coming. Despite the discomfort, the Snake facing itself, realizes it must go through a transformation. The skin of the Snake begins to separate from its body, it’s like packing to move, its like that goodbye from a lover you never wanted to hear, its the job that brought security suddenly ending, it is that medical test coming back with unwanted results. So the Snake spends the weeks of May sloughing, until one day, with great bravery and serenity, the Snake slides out of its old skin of its previous life, and feels into its new shiny skin, reborn to a new chapter. Through the tall cool grass, he slithers with greater freedom and knowing, wiser for all that has been left behind, grieving what has been lost, and embracing a new way forward.

The Snake with greater wisdom, intuitive sensing, and discernment arrives in the field where the Horses run. The month of June begins with a double Horse, so there is again, an amplification of this astrology, this energy, this forecasting. The Horses are running under the blazing sun of summer as the Snake coils up and around one of the Horses legs. He rises up and wraps himself around her neck like a boa. Positioning himself so that his head is near the ear of the Horse, he is now in position to guide the Horse into the month ahead. As the Horse with the Snake feels into the passion of the moment, chases after freedoms, breaks down fences, and leaps into the new, the Snake is there like a spirit guide whispering into the Horse’s ear wisdoms, information, data, predictions, and cautions. The Snake is like the driver and the Horse is the vehicle. The risk here is that the two Horses run out of control, that their combined enthusiasm is too raucous to hear the divinely spoken words of the Snake. There is a concern here for recklessness and the Snake is hanging on for the ride.

Weary from the running, from the speed, and the wildness of the Horses, the Snake falls exhausted on the beach in the month of July. This is a sandy patch by a pond where the rain falls softly and the air is scented with the hot grasses of summer. There Snake finds the company of a Sheep. Thank god, the Snake sighs, I have found a resting place, a calm balm to rest. The Sheep lays down in the shade of a tree and calls to the Snake to join her. The Sheep sings a sweet song, the Snake curls up to rest in the cowl of the Sheep’s legs. The Snake has no more words, hoarse from trying to be heard by the Horses, feeling his efforts were thwarted or dismissed, the Snake finds great peace of mind in the symmetry and balance of the Sheep’s tranquil presence. The Sheep cautions Snake to rest up, there is a battle coming in the Part 3 of this year 2025, the Monkey with a semi Fire Penalty in August. The meditative mood of the Sheep and Snake is the ideal container to prepare for what is coming.
